Mobile won't throttle unlimited data until you use 50GB

It's official: T-Mobile to bump monthly unlimited throttling limit to 50GB (from 32GB)

You can enjoy fast (well, if it's fast in your area) data as promised, but once you reach that data cap, in this case, T-Mobile's supposed 50GB threshold, you will experience reduced speeds during network congestion hours. T-Mobile is the one doing the tweaking today, confirming rumors that we heard earlier this morning.

To make matters worse, many of these plans have additional caveats.

Starting tomorrow, T-Mobile will up its unlimited data throttling limit to 50GB from 32GB, according to a document sent to Android Central.

By my count, this is the third such increase this year alone. For the most part these plans are unlimited, and these caps are put into place to prevent users from abusing it, such as tethering to their computers and downloading movies, games, and music illegally.

All the carriers use some form of deprioritization limit on their networks.

Ray is quick to point out that slower download speeds - as a result of prioritization - only come into effect if you 1) have consumed over 50GB of data in your current billing cycle and 2) you are now connected to a sector of its network that is experiencing heavy congestion.

Verizon and AT&T throttle users after 22GB; the move is meant to ensure that a small number of data hogs don't bog down the network. For AT&T and Verizon Wireless, that limit is set at 22GB. Only then will you be throttled back to the lower speeds.

As T-Mobile points out, the vast majority of users won't actually manage to burn through all 50GB of data in a month.
