Vetrivel, whose petition expressed apprehension that the Speaker might disqualify the 19 dissident MLAs, argued that the disqualification may go in favour of the CM in case of a floor test is conducted.

Rajendran had sought their disqualification after the 19 MLAs petitioned Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao to remove Chief Minister K Palaniswami following the merger of factions led by Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam, now Deputy Chief Minister.

Chennai: Amid escalating infighting in Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK, the TTV Dhinakaran faction of the party on Thursday moved a plea in the Madras High Court seeking a floor test in the state assembly.

On Wednesday, Dinakaran said that he would never go with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), amid speculations that his faction would part ways from the merged factions of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palanisamy and his predecessor O Panneerselvam. "This apart, many more MLAs who had earlier voted in support of the incumbent Chief Minister have also started to withdraw their support", Stalin's plea stated.

Stalin had, on Sunday, called on the governor and urged him to direct the Palaniswami government to prove its majority in the Assembly within a week, in the wake of the revolt by the 19 AIADMK MLAs against the chief minister last month. Following the revolt of 19 party MLAs against Palanisamy, they were all initially put up at a resort in Puducherry.

"His faction had moved the court against a possible disqualification of its MLAs after "sensing" such possible action", from Speaker P Dhanapal, he said.

Spain prosecutors threaten to arrest Catalan pro-referendum mayors
Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Barcelona this week to show support for independence. They argue that Spain's 1978 constitution bars regional governments from calling independence referendums .

Dhinakaran had earlier dismissed the September 12 General Council as a "public meeting", saying the court could have the final say on the matter.

"You (EPS-OPS) claim you have support of party workers, so if you have the guts, let us face fresh elections", he said.

He said, "No legal sanction for the [general council ] meeting and those who attended are not general council members".

On Tuesday, the united groups of Palaniswami and O Paneerselvam took control of the organisation by removing the party's official chief V Sasikala from all posts and declaring as "null and void" all decisions taken by her nephew Dinakaran, the number two person.

Speaking to ANI, DMK leader A. Saravanan said it is a fallacy to say that the party is going to join hands with them.
