Richard Branson Reveals Devastation of Hurricane Hit Private Island Blames ‘Man-Made Climate Change

Virgin boss Richard Branson has revealed the extent of damage to his private island in the Caribbean as he called for urgent government help for those in the Caribbean in desperate need after Hurricane Irma.

Branson is now based in Puerto Rico where he is "mobilising recovery with government and aid agencies" before he heads back to the island to help on the ground.

Branson posted photos on Twitter and Instagram showing the damage wrought on his island and wrote in a blog that climate change should be taken more seriously by governments.

The storm ripped apart the resort while Branson and his team hid in the wine cellar.

He wrote: 'I've already seen some wonderful acts of human kindness over the last few days.

Sir Richard was writing from Puerto Rico, where he said he is mobilising aid efforts and rebuilding plans for the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and the wider Caribbean. He emphasized on getting more help to the islands to rebuild homes and infrastructure. Thank you for your continuing support, it means the world to us'. The Virgin boss, who hid in the concrete wine cellar of the property when the hurricane struck on Wednesday, has previously said that the home has been "completely and utterly devastated" by the storm.

'I'm speaking these words from a satellite phone that is just about working, but all other communications are down.

"Hurricane Irma really is storm of the century - but urge all in path of Hurricane #Jose to prepare & stay safe too", he captioned one image of dozens of boats piled up in the harbor, blown about by the high 180 miles per hour winds.

He added: "Our thoughts are with all the people and regions hit by Hurricane Irma, and all those in the U.S. communities now facing the storm".
