UEFA puts Paris Saint-Germain finances under investigation

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann was present ahead of the upcoming qualifiers

European football's governing body UEFA says it will be looking at the deals under its Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

While the Parisian side's board insist that they have obeyed the rules - which regard transfer spending in relation to revenue - many at UEFA believe the club are attempting to bypass the rules, which were brought in with the intention of preventing financial inequality among teams.

Like many other clubs in this insane transfer window, PSG have circumvented the rules by securing Mbappe on a season-long loan, and are to make the deal permanent next summer for a whopping 180 million euros ($214 million).

Officials met UEFA club finance experts in Paris last week, and updated UEFA on the Mbappe deal as it went through Thursday, the statement said.

That is because FFP covers profit and loss over a three-year period.

UEFA released a statement saying that the investigation would focus on the compliance of the club with the break even rules, particularly over its recent transfer moves.

Islamic State Leader Still Alive Says Top US Army Chief
But the US -led coalition has expressed caution for months, citing a lack of evidence. "We've heard all kinds of reporting". Baghdadi, who has a $25m bounty on his head, has been reported dead a number of times in the previous year .

Clubs can ultimately be kicked out of European competition for flouting the rules although until now UEFA has tried to negotiate settlements with offenders.

Despite a massive outlay on players, PSG has failed to get past the quarterfinals of the Champions League in the past four seasons, and only once made the semifinals - back in 1995.

"When analysed in the context of generating record broadcast, commercial and matchday revenues, Premier League clubs are spending well within their means", Deloitte's Dan Jones said. President of Spain's La Liga, Javier Tebas, believes PSG can not possibly comply with FFP without using inflated sponsorship deals from Qatari companies way above market value and has labelled the system "financial doping".

Arsene Wenger says that Arsenal wanted to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer, but were unable to afford his transfer fee.

Although no transfer fee has been given by either French club, it was widely reported that PSG will pay an astonishing 180 million euros for Mbappe, who burst onto the scene last season in sensational style.

Mbappe officially joined PSG from Monaco on a season-long loan, but Sportsmail understands PSG are obliged to complete a permanent deal worth £166million next summer, making him the second-most expensive player ever after Neymar. It will argue the signing of Neymar, in particular, and now Mbappe, has hugely raised the profile and interest in the club and is attracting commercial partners.
