All-new 306bhp Leon Cupra R is most powerful Seat ever

New SEAT Leon Cupra R revealed – to be shown at Frankfurt

Speaking of the new Leon Cupra R, it's a dialed-up version of the already mental Leon Cupra 300.

Just 799 units of the Cupra R will be produced, Seat boss Luca De Meo announced this morning, with an exclusive matte exterior finish available, copper detailing and bucket seats distinguishing the auto from the standard Cupra. The vehicle will be available to buy at the end of 2017 says Seat.

The third iteration of the range-topping hot hatch will get a 306bhp petrol engine, up from the Cupra 300's 296bhp, thanks to sportier engine mapping.

Those opting for the DSG version, though, won't receive those extra 10 ponies. The extra 10bhp the manual Cupra R comes with could lead to a slightly quicker time, but human hands don't tend to be as quick at changing gear as dual-clutch automatics, so the difference may be negligible. As a result, owners of the manual transmission Cupra R will have the ultimate bragging rights for having the "most powerful Seat to date". A limited-slip differential should help quell excessive wheel-spin and improve traction, while the exhaust system has also been modified to provide an even fruitier exhaust note. Massive Brembo brakes do deceleration duties. There's more carbon-fibre treatment on the side skirts and rear diffuser.

North Korea claims to have more advanced hydrogen bomb
The North has previously claimed to have miniaturised a nuclear weapon but experts have cast doubt on this. South Korea says North Korea may have conducted a sixth nuclear test, Yonhap reports citing Blue House.

Images of the interior are missing, but the company says, the upholstery of the steering wheel cover and shift lever are made of leather, and the decoration of the interior used parts from copper and carbon fibre.

We see the Leon Cupra R as more of a special edition model than anything, but that is no bad thing.

You best strike quickly if you want the latest Seat Leon Cupra R because just 799 will be built, having publically debuted at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

It'll be available to order later this year in Midnight Black, Pyrenees Grey or Matte Grey.
