Stuart Law proud after Windies rally to beat England

Live England vs West Indies, 2nd Test, Day 5 at Leeds, cricket score and updates

With the win, West Indies leveled the three-match series 1-1.

Hope and Kraigg Brathwaite (95) shared a stand of 144 after they had put on 246 in the first innings, when Brathwaite made 134.

"Really? Thanks for the news", Hope said after being told he had become the first to score a century in both innings of a Headingley game. "I m just pleased to get the win".

"The key thing for us is that we've shown improvement", said Estwick of a match where the West Indies players have worn black armbands as a mark of respect following the death of his mother.

Bowling coach, Roddy Estwick, conceded Monday that West Indies had failed to properly negotiate the big moments on the penultimate day of the second Test but warned pundits not to write off the Caribbean side ahead of a tense final day on Tuesday.

Hope, whose average of 18 over his previous 11 tests had never reflected his potential, said he trusted the win would be a stepping stone towards a brighter future for the team.

"I can go back as far as 1984 when [England] declared and gave us 300-odd to win and we got it with two wickets down so don't write us off yet, we're not out of it yet".

England will rue dropped catches - Alastair Cook spilled Hope and Brathwaite at first slip off Stuart Broad - but there could be no complaints about the defeat as Caribbean cricket enjoyed a dramatic reawakening. Broad tried in vain to catch a powerful shot from Brathwaite and ended up inadvertently deflecting the ball onto the stumps at the non-striker's end with his thigh, meaning that Kyle Hope was run out for an unfortunate duck.

But it was not until the stroke of tea that Windies lost their third wicket when Brathwaite edged Moeen Ali to Stokes at slip.

Brathwaite again made the best of his good fortune to mix caution with admirable aggression as he faced 180 balls, striking 12 fours.

Jermaine Blackwood was positive as he slashed his way to 41 off 45 balls to send the home team's fielders scurrying all over Headingley before he was out stumped with two runs still needed.

Although none of them went on to dominate the innings with a century, the English batsmen put together a series of partnerships to fight back from a 169-run first innings deficit, and from 94-3 early in their second innings.

Hope took the bulk of the plaudits after becoming the first man ever to make two tons in a first-class game at Headingley.
