Runways Flooded At Houston Hobby Airport, Flights Canceled

Hurricane Harvey impacts Gulfport flights

Hurricane Harvey is expected to disrupt USA air travel this week as Houston's two airports remain closed and heavy rain continues to fall across Texas. No inbound or outbound flights from either airport at this time.

As tropical storm Harvey continues to pound parts of Texas, almost 3,000 flights have been canceled across the nation.

Most have issued change-fee waivers for travelers who cancel their flights in anticipation of the storm.

Meanwhile, at least two persons have so far died in Southeast Texas, following the most powerful storm to hit the state in more than 50 years. Locals were taking refuge in attics or on rooftops awaiting rescue.

Flights scheduled in and out of Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport, Hobby Airport, Corpus Christi International and Dallas-Fort Worth are being cancelled as airlines begin to prepare for stalled travel.

The airport system's website says Bush Intercontinental Airport is 23 miles north of downtown Houston and provides service via 29 passenger airlines. The discount airline said it recommends that passengers "shelter in place" at Hobby.
