Trump Criticizes McConnell for Failure to Advance Health-Law Reform

FANCY FARM Ky. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mc Connell speaks Saturday August 5 at the 137th annual Fancy Farm picnic in Graves County Ky

Even as the Trump White House continues to calibrate the right response to the news that North Korea may have miniaturized a nuclear weapon, President Donald Trump started a very public fight with the most powerful Republican in the Senate. As a candidate, he promised to "immediately" repeal and replace Obamacare. Trump asked in a tweet.

This is the first year Republicans have been in a position to scuttle Obama's law because they control the White House and Congress, making last month's crash of their bill acutely painful for the party.

"I like Mitch", Graham continued, "but for eight years we've been saying we're going to repeal and replace Obamacare". Cole said not repealing Obamacare was a congressional failure, not a presidential one. Chris Coons to introduce a measure Thursday that would make it more hard for a president to fire any special counsel - retroactive to Mueller's appointment in May. "You can do it!"

Trump will need him to guide the next major Republican priority, a tax system overhaul, through the chamber. The administration has also been mired in investigations into contacts between his presidential campaign and Russian Federation, and distracted by infighting among high-level White House staff.

Trump has not been afraid to use his Twitter account to attack congressmen, but until recently had generally stayed away from McConnell who is one of the most powerful men in Washington. The more aggressive American Health Care Act of 2017 that passed the House in May would cause 23 million people to lose health insurance.

"Discerning a particular strategy or goal from these tweets is hard", said Doug Heye, a Republican consultant and former Capitol Hill staffer.

The remarks came after Trump attacked the Senate majority leader in several statements on Twitter in recent days.

Heye said it was hard to see how Trump's tweets make it easier to pass health care reform or other items on the Republican agenda, such as tax reform. "This is where we should all be working together, and that clearly is not happening". McConnell accused Trump of having "excessive expectations" and said he was too attached to "artificial deadlines unrelated to the reality".

"Our new president has of course not been in this line of work before", he said at a local Rotary club in Florence, Ky. McConnell added, "I think he had excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process".

Meanwhile, Dan Scavino Jr., President Trump's director of social media, compounded the Commander-in-Chief's criticisms for McConnell.

Trump later implied the Senate's top Republican should step aside if he can't pass Trump's legislative agenda during a press conference. "The president can't disassociate himself with this", Gingrich said of the healthcare vote.

But that's not all folks, while the president tweet-ordered Congress to go back to work from his vacation home in New Jersey, he also took the time to keep up his rant while speaking to reporters.
