Deposed Pakistani PM begins 2 days of rallies

Punjab CM Shahbaz responds to the critics

Sources in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party said that some of the senior party leaders were concerned about the security of Sharif.

Deposed Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif continued his journey from Islamabad toward his hometown of Lahore on August 10, a trip that appears aimed at displaying his political influence after a Supreme Court decision forced him out late last month.

Other sources also informed that several PML-N party leaders advised Nawaz Sharif that it is was rather hard to gather a large number of participants in Jhelum, and suggested to display the show of power in Gujranwala and ultimately in Lahore.

Just who are you protesting against, does becoming prime minister puts one above the law, Kaira kept lashing out at Nawaz Sharif.

Large numbers of police were deployed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday, as compared to the first day of the rally, but fewer cars were accompanying Sharif's procession.

Party leaders have recently suggested that Abbasi is expected to hold office until elections due next year, a reversal of earlier indications that Sharif's younger brother, Shahbaz, would take over the office.

Sources said that Sharif spoke to his family members, including Shehbaz in Lahore, before embarking on his journey to Lahore.

The Supreme Court had ruled that because Sharif failed to declare a salary accruing to him as an asset in his nomination papers for the 2013 election, he could not be considered "truthful" and hence was unfit to continue in office. Sharif, in recent meetings with party leaders, lawyers and the media, has expressed his displeasure over the court rulings.

"Even those judges said Nawaz Sharif didn't indulge in corruption", he thundered, and asked people to question why their leader was disqualified when he was not involved in corruption.

"Will the nation's mandate ever be respected?" he asked. He said Sharif will address the crowd and then spend the night at a lodge.

Several other smaller rallies joined Sharif's on the way. "It is the linchpin of the democratic order and oxygen for political parties", he said.
