Gone fishing: Russia's Putin goes shirtless yet again on Siberian lake trip

Russian President Vladimir Putin holds a fish he caught during a hunting and fishing trip in southern Siberia.

Russian news agency TASS reports that Putin went to Siberia to hike in the forest, go fishing on mountain lakes and dive underwater while chasing a pike during a short stop in the Tyva region over the first two days in August.

"It's very sly and cautious", the president said of his prey after getting out of the water, according to The Associated Press.

Russian President Vladimir Putin donned a diving suit to go spearfishing at the cascade of mountain lakes.

The Russian leader has frequently offered macho images of his sporting life, which has included flying combat jets, riding horses, scuba-diving and riding a horse bare-chested.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, left, and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu rested after fishing in southern Siberia. A longtime judo master, he now regularly plays ice hockey.

In December 2016, the administration of former US President Barack Obama imposed a set of punitive measures against Russia, including the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats and the closure of the two Russian diplomatic compounds.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin, who loves to cultivate a virile man-of-action image, was shown on Russian TV Saturday spear-fishing in a camouflage wetsuit, piloting a powerboat and catching some rays while on a Siberian holiday.

He also accompanied a flock of cranes on a hang glider, shot a tiger with a tranquiliser gun and released leopards into a wildlife sanctuary.

Trump's early embrace of Putin's strongman tactics won't be forgotten any time soon, even as the president appears to be getting tough on Russian Federation with recent sanctions.
