7-month-old boy found dead in hot car

Both infants were said to be in the care of family members at the time of the respective incidents, Phoenix police said, according to the paper.

Police said the father did not know the child was in the back of the vehicle until he got to the church.

In June, four Arkansas women were charged with manslaughter in the death of a 5-year-old boy who died after he was left inside a day care van all day, police said.

On Friday, a 7-month-old boy was found inside a hot vehicle in Phoenix and later died. The baby, who has been identified as Josiah Riggins, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Every year in the Phoenix area, fire officials say, roughly 10 parents come to the stomach-clenching conclusion that they've made a fatal mistake and left a small child in a sweltering auto.

Temperatures in Phoenix reached a high of 100 degrees on Friday afternoon, and 102 degrees on Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather service.

She said, she had come to the church to support the family and mentioned hearing about the other baby that had died similarly on Friday.

The deaths were the first and second cases of a child dying of heat stroke in a sweltering vehicle this year, Sgt. Mercedes Fortune told The Washington Post. "You feel like it's something that could happen to anybody".

Last year, the organization recorded 29 heatstroke deaths of children left in cars.

Fortune reminded parents to check the back seats of their cars for children.
