Tesla is focused on Model 3 production challenges at launch

Appears to be a few Model 3 in the area

Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk on Friday (Saturday, Australian time) unveiled the full specifications and pricing of the new Tesla Model 3 electric vehicle, revealing that the base model will have a range of 354km, while a pricier version would have a range of almost 500kms. After showing the clip, Musk said the Volvo is arguably the second safest vehicle in the world, since the Model 3 took less damage in the same crash test. Complete self-driving capability - something neither Tesla nor any other automaker has yet perfected - will cost an additional $3,000, if and when it becomes available.

This is partly because the Model 3 was designed with the long view of autonomy in mind.

The Model 3 mimics the sleek styling of Tesla's considerably more expensive Model S. But the new model has an interior look all of its own, featuring a spare, wood-paneled dashboard devoid of instruments except a single computer touch-screen.

The costs contrast with that of previous Tesla models, the Roadster, Model S and Model X, which hovered around the $100,000 mark or more.

While the Model X SUV and Model S sedan served as (expensive) early standard bearers for the fledgling auto company, the Model 3 is being billed as an electric vehicle for the everyman. A discussion that one Redditor had earlier today with Tesla customer service also sheds light on possibly delivery dates.

The Long-Range model will cover nearly 500km on a single charge, while the Standard Model 3 will do just over 350km.

First unveiled in March past year and detailed only in vague terms, the Model 3 has been the subject of intense speculation up until now. "That S-curve portion is us going through hell basically". "We are going to go through at least six months of manufacturing hell", he said.

Tesla is looking to ramp up production quickly between now and the end of 2017, with 5,000 vehicles rolling off the assembly each week by December.

The announcement was made by CEO Elon Musk at tonight's highly exclusive Tesla Model 3 Delivery event. Customers can also spend a little more for the $44,000 long range version, which offers a 310 mile range, top speed of 140mph, and 0-60mph time of 5.1 seconds.

Earlier this evening, Tesla hosted a special event to hand over the keys for the first 30 Tesla Model 3 sedans to their new owners. The former will have a range of 220 miles (350km) on a single charge, while it'll clock 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds, before hitting a top-speed of 210km/h.

The Model 3 premium price is $2,000 above that margin.

His Boring Company is part of a vision for near-supersonic rail travel via low-pressure tubes, which he laid out in a hyperloop white paper he made open to other entrepreneurs.

Like its predecessors, the Model 3 is fully electric and on-board computers can handle driving tasks. Tesla also commits to manufacture 500,000 units of its Model 3 next year which is as much as six times of the units manufactured in 2016.

While those problems are largely considered resolved, Tesla has struggled to increase overall production this year.
