Bach says International Olympic Committee faces 'important' decisions on 2024, 2028 Games

Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti speaks during a press conference after the International Olympic Committee Extraordinary Session at the Swiss Tech Convention Centre in Lausanne Switzerland Tuesday J

The Paris 2024 team was due at the museum later Monday evening, led by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Last week the IOC Evaluation Commission report lavished praise on both bidding cities, stating there was "very little to separate" the two bids.

In a move that reaffirms the commitment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to safeguard human rights, the body has made protection of human rights as a core issue in its revised Host City Contract, sent out to the 2014 Olympic bid cities.

That plan, likely to be rubber-stamped by International Olympic Committee members on Tuesday, will effectively guarantee that both the French capital and California metropolis get the Games.

While Paris firmly has 2024 in its sights, LA is reportedly a little more flexible under certain conditions.

"LA 2024 is an embodiment of Olympic Agenda 2020", added Garcetti.

"Estanguet said "[The President] is very, very supportive and we have a very strong relationship with him, and you will see, it will be strong tomorrow". She worked with the Rome 2004 and Turin 2006 Olympic bids and also managed PR & media for Dr. Jacques Rogge during his campaign for the presidency.

The mayor said his goal was to "bring America back to the Olympics and the Olympics back to America".

Bach has described Paris and Los Angeles as "two great Olympic cities" and does not want to reject either.

"In this insane moment in the world, when so much is unsure let's bring what we know to be true and good and that is the Olympic movement", added Garcetti, a prominent member of the Democratic Party who has been cited in many USA media reports as a possible challenger to President Donald Trump in 2020.

His LA counterpart Casey Wasserman said the Californian city has "an excellent plan for 2024".

Report author Didier Cossin says the IOC's solid reputation as a sports leader is "can be strengthened".

Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympics, had pushed for the joint awarding as the world, and Europe in particular, struggled to rebound after the devastating First World War.
