American tourist beaten dead in Greece

At least eight people have been arrested in connection with the beating death of an American tourist in the Greek isles celebrating his recent college graduation, officials said. It is unclear why the fight broke out.

It's unknown what started the altercation, but witnesses reported seeing Henderson surrounded by a crowd of as many as 10 people, according to local newspaper Kathimerini.

Greek media reported that the parents of the victim, who suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital, were expected to arrive on Zante later Saturday.

Greek police are now searching for those involved, and have arrested a 32-year-old Serbian national as well as a 34-year-old Greek national in connection to the case. Out of the four who were arrested, two were charged with his murder, and a number of other people are being questioned.

"We are in communication with authorities and providing consular assistance to the deceased citizen's family", the official said.

KXAN spoke with one of Henderson's childhood friends, John Gramlich, who called him a teammate, a traveling buddy, and a best friend.

The incident is not the first killing of foreigner on Zakynthos and in 2011 a 19-year-old British tourist was beaten to death by two Greek taxi drivers.
