CBS responds to Hawaii Five-0 pay disparity allegations

Daniel dae kim grace park

George Takei, an actor of Japanese descent who has made appearances on both the revived "Hawaii Five-0" and the original series, noted that Hawaii is home to a large Asian-American population and called CBS's inability to get a deal done with the two actors "sad". "Kim and Park were principal characters on the show for seven seasons, and made a decision to leave after CBS reportedly offered them both a significantly lower salary than their fellow co-stars".

The network added that it has "tremendous respect" for the actors and hoped to work with them again.

That followed an earlier Facebook post by Kim in which he said he had made himself available to return, but was not able agree to terms with CBS on a new contract, so he made the decision to leave the show.

He continues, "As an Asian American actor, I know first-hand how hard it is to find opportunities at all, let alone play a well developed, three dimensional character like Chin Ho". They've helped us build an exciting new Hawaii Five-0, and we wish them all the best and much success in their next chapters.

"The path to equality is rarely easy", Kim wrote in his Facebook message, "But I hope you can be excited for the future". Kim has other acting projects in process and his production company, 3AD, is releasing The Good Doctor on ABC this fall. "I will miss him sincerely".

Mark Cavendish injured in ugly crash with at the Tour de France
Tomorrow's fifth stage takes the Tour another 160.5 kilometers from Vittel to La planche des belles filles . Nonetheless, Sagan was disqualified from the Tour de France for the incident .

However, Kim's message urged fans to look beyond his absence in the show as part of a "bigger picture", perhaps alluding to his and Park's refusal to be under compensated through a lens of social justice and equality.

Daniel Dae Kim is refusing to stay silent on why he won't be in the upcoming season of the popular TV series, "Hawaii Five-0".

Kim and Park chose to exit the procedural ahead of its eighth season on CBS as a result of failed salary negotiations, during which the Asian actors sought pay equal to that of their white co-stars, Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan. Kim and Park's exits are just the most recent when it comes to the show's Asian talent. The entertainment industry continues to struggle with accurately portraying Asian American stories and including diverse characters.

I also want to say thank you to Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and everyone at CBS. Why is it that Kim, fresh off his six-year run as Jin on Lost, was offered less of a role than his white co-stars?
