Gordon Hayward will reportedly make decision on 4th of July

Boston MA USA- Atlanta Hawks' Dennis Schroder guards against Boston Celtics' Isaiah Thomas during the first half on Sunday

On Monday, Sam Amick of USA Today said the small forward "will sleep on his decision" between staying with the Utah Jazz or joining the Miami Heat or Boston Celtics.

Just 10 minutes after Chris Haynes of ESPN (and, subsequently, several others) reported the deal, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Jazz had not been informed of a Hayward decision.

Hayward met with the Celtics, Jazz and Miami Heat over the past few days, weighing his free agency options. Maybe Hayward was destined to land with the C's all along. The terms of Hayward's apparent deal have not been released. He was named to his first All-Star team, and averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range. However, that also infers that prior to the meeting, there's a chance that Hayward's preference was elsewhere...and that's scary to say the least.

However, ESPN maintains that Hayward plans to sign with the Celtics.

Boston's big-name commitment on the free agent market is the team's second in as many years. He'll bring that efficiency to the Celtics, around a core that made it to the Eastern Conference championship round in 2017.

Hayward, 27, has steadily developed into a franchise-caliber player since the Jazz selected him with the ninth overall pick of the 2010 draft.

But Hayward's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said the choice has not yet been made.

With Hayward now committed, the Celtics picked up an All-Star who ranked as one of the NBA's most efficient high-volume scorers last season. The 28-year-old Thomas initially injured his hip during the third quarter of a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 15.
