Rand Paul to GOP: Pass a 'Clean Repeal Like We Promised'

Trump urges GOP Senators to repeal Obamacare immediately, then replace

Asked about the president's challenge, White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that President Trump hasn't changed his thinking and is still committed to working with the Senate on legislation - while exploring all options.

Underscoring the fissures within the GOP, conservative group leaders welcomed Trump's suggestion but said it didn't go far enough because it could open the door to a subsequent bipartisan compromise to replace Obama's law. On Friday, in Baton Rouge, Cassidy tried to discuss flood relief - a critical issue in his state - only to be interrupted with chants of "health care, health care". And on Friday, with the bill struggling, he flipped again, tweeting: "If Republican Senators are unable to pass what they are working on now, they should immediately REPEAL, and then REPLACE at a later date!"

Shortly before his January inauguration, Trump urged lawmakers to repeal and replace Obamacare at the same time.

"There would be absolutely no certainty, whatsoever, about anything", Laszewski said. He abandoned that idea after the Congressional Budget Office reported last week that his plan would cause 22 million Americans to lose health insurance.

Conservatives like Paul and Sen.

After the House bill passed, he held something akin to a conservative pep rally on the White House lawn, only to later call the measure "mean" as it hit the Senate.

GOP Sens. David Perdue of Georgia, Steve Daines of Montana, Joni Ernst of Iowa, John Kennedy of Louisiana, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Mike Lee of Utah, Mike Rounds of South Dakota, Luther Strange of Alabama, Dan Sullivan of Alaska and Thom Tillis of North Carolina sent McConnell a letter Friday asking him to either shorten or cancel the monthlong August recess so they can get more done.

Senate GOP leadership had set a deadline of Friday for a repeal/replace vote.

Now, Republicans have to figure out if there's a version of Obamacare repeal that can find 50 supportive senators - a balancing act between moderates looking to keep more of the social safety net in place and conservatives looking to reduce the role of government in health care. "We are focused on doing that". McConnell's spokesman declined to comment on Trump's tweet.

"If Leader McConnell can get us across the finish line in a combined repeal and replace, I'd like to see that happen", the Republican freshman senator said in an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN's "State of the Union".

Trump wants to use energy for 'global leadership'
Perry appeared saddened by the failed promise of nuclear energy , noting that it had been "strangled" by government regulations. I mean, that's the first ante, and the Trump administration said that's nonsense.

House and Senate leaders long ago abandoned initial thoughts of first erasing Obama's law, and then replacing it.

The comment seemingly contradicted what Mr. Trump previously said. "I think you can get 52 Republicans for clean repeal".

"By guaranteeing them at least one Obamacare compliant plan, we're guaranteeing them exactly what they have now but giving them more options". " 'So did every Republican senator". And that's an argument that Democrats appear to have won for good in 2009, and that Republicans don't even want to fight - thus Republican efforts to portray Medicaid cuts as somehow harmless and not even cuts after all.

McConnell said he is well aware of the health care challenges facing Americans.

"If you wish to chant and stop others from being able to speak or be heard, that is not civil", Cassidy retorted.

For 61-year-old Ken Randall, the Affordable Care Act cost him money.

If Mitch McConnell believed anything about the health care bill, it was that the Senate needed to vote on it before they left for a scheduled July 4 recess.

But the calls for repeal reflect the anger that Trump and many conservatives feel about the measure that McConnell crafted in closed session and which would cut $772 billion over 10 years from Medicaid, the public insurance program that covers almost 70 million Americans, while providing $541 billion in tax cuts. But now he's going to have to spend even more time trying. The current draft repeals or delays all the taxes imposed by the 2010 law.

The split between the Affordable Care Act and Obamacare gave Republican leaders a large opportunity: They were in a ideal position to define Obamacare however they liked, and most Republicans (except for a handful of true ideologues and a perhaps larger handful of contrarians) would go along.

"If we can do a combined repeal and replace over the next week, that's great", Sasse said.
