Rangers add Shattenkirk, Pavelec in free agency

Kevin Shattenkirk will be the most coveted free agent available come July 1

On June 25, one day after the conclusion of the 2017 NHL Draft, teams were allowed to start reaching out to potential free agents. And now, according to TSN's Frank Seravalli, Shattenkirk has officially inked what amounts to a $6.65 million-per-year agreement.

Defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk, the top available player in Postmedia's 2017 Free Agent Frenzy rankings, agreed to a four-year, $26.6 million USA with the New York Rangers Saturday afternoon, considerably less money and term he was offered prior to the trade deadline. Many teams are expected to make a push to sign Shattenkirk to a big contract, including the New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay, Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres and Las Vegas Golden Knights. Williams won the Stanley Cup with the Canes in 2005-06.

- The Montreal Canadiens signed D Karl Alzner to a five-year deal with an average annual value of $4.625 million.
