Australian Open: Kidambi Srikanth to take on China's Shi Yuqi in semis

Making India Proud Indian hockey team won the match against Pakistan and K. Srikanth clinches Indonesia Open Superseries title

India's Kidambi Srikanth blew away China's Shi Yuqi with a "dream" performance to set up an Australian Open final against Olympic champion Chen Long on Saturday.

All eyes, usually, are on PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal when it comes to Indian badminton, but Srikanth, with his own head-turning displays, is slowly changing that trend. He had previously reached the final at the Singapore Open - where he lost against compatriot B Sai Praneeth - and won the title at the Indonesia Open last week.

The first game started with Srikanth's first point coming from his trademark powerful smash.

The world no.11 will face the victor of the other men's singles semi-final between Chen Long and Lee Hyun II.

This was the second time that Srikanth, ranked 11th, came face to face with World No.4 Shi Yuqi. Srikanth had beaten him at the quarters of the Singapore Open in April. "I was in control at the net". The two shuttlers battled neck and neck till 7-7 before a three-point burst saw the Indian take the lead at 10-7. Though Shi Yuqi tried to close the gap, Srikanth closed out the game and the match.

Okuhara made her first Superseries final in over a year, wearing down China's Sun Yu 21-18, 18-21, 21-14, while Yamaguchi played a brilliant counter-attacking game to shock Taiwanese top seed Tai Tzu Ying 21-19, 21-12. Accurate net shots, smooth drops shots were the highlight of Srikanth's play in the first game. Shi scored three consecutive points thereafter, using his speed to his advantage. After being down for a few seconds however, Srikanth got up and breezed his way into the final, fittingly with a smash.
