Senate GOP releases bill to cut Medicaid, alter 'Obamacare'

Reform movement decries Senate Republicans' health care bill

What we do know is that, in Louisiana, the bill would kill the expansion of Medicaid that has brought health care to more than 425,000 residents-with 51,000 of those people living right here in New Orleans. "I would prefer to address health care reform in a bipartisan manner, but Democrats are unwilling to work with President Trump and congressional Republicans to fix the mess they created". Mike Lee, R-Utah; and Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

The bill would provide tax credits to help people buy insurance. The deep cuts to Medicaid likely mean about 20 million Americans will lose their health insurance, including 4.5 million Californians. When Trump stupidly referred to the House bill as "mean", he was nearly certainly referring to the provision in that measure that lets insurers charge higher premiums to those with preexisting conditions in states that have received a waiver from the federal government. Like the House bill, the Senate plan would repeal or delay those tax boosts. He said that the debate is "about the character of our country - who we are, and who we aspire to be". The Senate bill would provide subsidies only for people who make up to 350% of the poverty level, or about an annual income of $42,210.

The Senate measure would phase out the extra money Obama provided to expand the federal-state Medicaid program for the poor and disabled to millions of additional low earners.

Obama wrote that he realized the flaws in the Affordable Care Act, his administration's signature legislation, and Republicans' interest in repealing it, but denounced any support for the health care bill laid out by Senate Republicans. Dean Heller of Nevada, facing a competitive 2018 re-election battle, Ohio's Rob Portman and Capito of West Virginia expressed concerns about the bill's cuts to Medicaid and drug addiction efforts. "I will do everything in my power to stop this devastating Trumpcare bill from ever becoming law, and I urge all Granite Staters to continue telling your stories and making your voices heard about how harmful this bill would be for you".

US Capitol Police remove protesters from in front of the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell inside the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill, on June 22, 2017. The budget office analysis of the Senate measure is expected early next week. The program now gives states all the money needed to cover eligible recipients and procedures.

Authorities released the footage on Tuesday, just days after a Minnesota jury acquitted Mr Yanez on all charges in the shooting. Soon, she was heard wailing. "Then she finally got the help, and then you take her life in front of her children".

Older Americans still could wind up paying much more for their health insurance.

PEARSON: The protections around preexisting conditions are still in place in the Senate bill, but the waiver authority gives states options that could include limiting coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

The "discussion draft" will also allow small business employers to receive credit for purchasing a health plan and providing it to their employees. "And as in the House bill, young adults up to the age of 26 could stay on their parents' health care plans".

It would largely retain the subsidies Obama provided to help millions buy insurance, which are pegged mostly to people's incomes and the premiums they pay. Trump has been threatening to discontinue those payments, and some insurance companies have cited uncertainty over those funds as reasons why they are abandoning some markets and boosting premiums.
