Rep. Steve Scalise's Condition Upgraded To 'Fair' After Baseball Field Shooting

MedStar Washington Hospital Center made the announcement on Tuesday, almost a week after a gunman opened fire on Scalise and his Republican colleagues at a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

On June 17, the last time the hospital provided an update, the hospital said his condition was "serious", and that he had undergone another surgery but was continuing to improve.

"Congressman Steve Scalise continues to make good progress", said MedStar Washington Hospital Center in a statement.

Scalise and other congressional Republicans were practicing for their annual charity baseball game against Democrats when a gunman started shooting. When he first arrived at the hospital following the shooting in Virginia, Scalise was said to be at "imminent risk of death". Patient is acutely ill. Scalise, 51, sustained injuries to internal organs, broken bones and severe bleeding after being shot in his left hip early on Wednesday at a baseball field in a suburb of Washington.
