Lakers deal Russell to Nets, acquire Lopez
The Lakers shipped out Timofey Mozgov and D'Angelo Russell to the Nets, in exchange for Brook Lopez and the 27th pick (the pick the Celtics swapped with the Nets as part of the 2013 trade between Boston and Brooklyn).
The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade hadn't been consummated Tuesday. Russell is two years removed from being the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
The 7-foot-1 Mozgov averaged 7.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.9 blocked shots last season - his first with the Lakers and seventh in the National Basketball Association overall.

Trump acknowledges for first time he's under investigation
Through a spokesman, Trump's personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz, blasted the Post's report, though he stopped short of denying it. The order came the same day that Vice President Mike Pence hired an outside lawyer to represent his legal interests.
The Lakers secured significant salary cap relief by trading Mozgov, who had three years remaining on his $48 million contract. And while doing so clears the way for Los Angeles to take UCLA star point guard Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick Thursday night, the far bigger ramification for the Lakers is that moving Russell's and Mozgov's contracts for next season clears $23 million in cap space in 2018.
Meanwhile, the Lakers have had preliminary discussions the Indiana Pacers about acquiring forward Paul George. Mozgov was signed to a four-year, $64 million deal just weeks after he helped the Cleveland Cavaliers win the NBA Finals. Wojnarowki reports the Lakers could be angling for George and LeBron James, and are likely to draft Ball at No. 2. Russell's -5.4 nERD ranked 469th among 486 players. He also infamously outed teammate Nick Young on social media for cheating on singer Iggy Azalea, leading to Russell being ostracized in the locker room.
2 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, but they are not waiting until Thursday night to begin reshaping their roster.
