Trump Ends Obama Deferred Deportation Plan

Trump Administration Ends Program Protecting Undocumented Immigrant Parents From Deportation

President Trump has officially reversed his campaign pledge to deport the so-called Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as small children.

The Trump administration has canceled a never-implemented Obama-era immigration program meant to protect parents of US citizens from deportation, fulfilling one of President Donald Trump's campaign promises.

The DHS press release added, however, that the June 2012 Obama memorandum creating DACA will remain in effect.

"This is a big victory for Dreamers amid months of draconian and meanspirited immigration enforcement policy", said David Leopold, an immigration lawyer.

But he's taken a softer line on the program affecting young immigrants, who are sometimes referred to as "Dreamers".

Trump has previously said his administration was devising a policy on how to deal with individuals covered by DACA, but no formal changes have been announced.

CNN sues Justice Department for copies of Comey memos
President Trump cited the probe into Hillary Clinton's emails as a key reason for her not to be trusted with the presidency. . Since his election, the predictions have proven mostly true, aside from one major detail - he wasn't talking about himself.

However, Trump has let stand Obama's 2012 memo that has granted reprieves from deportation to almost 800,000 undocumented immigrants who arrived as children.

While President Obama had pushed in many reforms for immigrants, a record number of 2 million deportations were executed during his administration.

But once in office, Mr. Trump faced a new reality: the political risks of targeting for deportation a group of people who are viewed sympathetically by many Americans. But immigration activists had remained anxious that the administration might still eliminate the program. As part of the expansion to protect immigrant parents living in the United States illegally, the Obama administration also sought to provide the young immigrants with work permits good for three years at a time.

It was meant to keep the immigrant parents safe from deportation and provide them with a renewable work permit good for two years, but it was blocked by a federal judge in Texas after 26 states filed suit against the federal government and challenged the effort's legality.

"Prior to implementation of DAPA, twenty-six states challenged the policies established in the DAPA memorandum in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas", the statement continued.
